Depending on where the pipe is a drain blockage can be an object droped in a sink or roots growing into a main sewer line.

Drain cleaning is a process of removing the blockage with a rotating cable or, in more difficult cases, using a high powered water jet.

Cable machines clear the drain by passing a rotating cable with a cutting blade attached to it’s end.  The blade dislodges the blockage which can be anything from grease, rags, soap to tree roots and other foreign objects.  Some blockages can require as much as 300 feet of cable.
